One little plan you should make
Tomorrow evening is the screening on the Mall of Make No Little Plans: Daniel Burnham and the American City, about the influential architect who helped design the major civic space innovations in DC and Chicago around the turn of the century. 8:30 pm at the Screen on the Green location, on the Mall around 4th Street.
Support wires
The DC Concil is moving quickly with the bill to allow overhead wires on H Street and Benning Road, scheduling the hearing on June 22nd at 2 pm. It’s helpful to have as many people testify as possible. To sign up, email or call (202-724-8195) April Hawkins-Mason. You get to speak for 3 minutes.
Support buildings at East Falls Church
The Arlington/Falls Church task force on East Falls Church will be voting on the excellent plan for the area on June 9, and the Arlington County Board will first hear it June 12, then hold public hearings June 28 and vote July 10. Opponents are mobilizing to fight the plan.
Online engagement and sustainable mobility
Next week is Digital Capital Week, and EMBARQ is organizing a panel and roundtable on online engagement in “sustainable urban mobility.” I’ll be speaking on the panel, along with DC’s CTO Bryan Sivak, DDOT’s CIO Lance Schine, Ben Berkowitz of SeeClickFix, and Nick Grossman of OpenPlans. Then, people including OP’s Harriet Tregoning, WMATA’s Nat Bottigheimer, and Prince of Petworth’s Dan Silverman will lead a roundtable discussion. It’s Tuesday, June 15th, 1:30-3:30 pm at 10 G Street, NE, Suite 800.

The following week, the Goethe-Institut is having an event on “Smart Mobility for the 21st Century,” with a panel including me and Virginia Tech professor Ralph Buehler, whose research focuses on bicycling in cities across the world. Tour U Street and Tysons
The Coalition for Smarter Growth is organizing two more of their excellent walking tours, of Tysons Corner on June 19th and U Street June 26th, both Saturdays at at 10 am. RSVP is required.
